Description: Jigsaw is mostly solid black. The only part of him not colored in black is the white marking on the left side of his face that splits his features down the middle. Burnt orange eyes sit deep inside his masculine dome, giving him an almost intimidating look. A few scars mark his onyx carcass along his chest and on his rump, though they are hardly noticeable. Taking after his friesian father, Jigsaw is stocky in build, even if his body seems just a tad too small for his large, feathered legs.
Personality: Jigsaw is rather full of himself. He's a cocky bastard with a lot of pride and seems to have a hard time with losing and rejection. Always the determined one, he goes after anything he wants and doesn't stop until he's knocked on his ass or successful, whichever comes first. He's the type that never stops and is always going for the next big goal, even when it seems that he's achieved enough or gained everything his heart desires. His limits seem to know no bounds, making him an absolute machine when there are new goals to be attained. Because of this, he is not very personable, as there will be very times when he stops long enough to actually get to know someone.
Jigsaw has been called cruel and heartless by many. While he can be dismissive and often times downright mean, he really isn't as bad as others make him out to be. Truth be told, he's quite the softy and has gone out of his way to help those in their time of need. He makes no quick judgments and wants to see the best in everyone, though it has come to head and burned him a time or two in the past. Despite this "rare kindness" he portrays, Jigsaw has never truly come to know anyone on a deeply personal level. He tends to keep most at bay, refusing to let himself get too attached to anyone. Perhaps this is what has shaped his cruel, heartless image, though it's done little to change him in the slightest. It's clear in the way that he interacts with others that he trusts no one, which is the primary reason he doesn't let others get too close. However, the doesn't deter him from being friendly or even offering homes to equines he crosses paths with. But, turn your back on him or betray him in any way, and you'll get the full extent of his wrath. Especially if you've managed, by some miracle, to gain his trust. Since his trust does not come easily, he will never forgive those that break his confidence in them.
A warrior by history, Jigsaw is a strong brute with a will to live and succeed that could very well put many to shame. He does not cower from a challenge, even when he knows he is outmatched. Instead, he rises to the occasion and fights with every fiber of his being until he is the champion, or until he is beaten to near death. While he'd rather avoid conflict if he can, he also won't run away from a fight and show such cowardice. He is brave, confident, and always believes in the favorable outcome, no matter what. This type of strong-will and optimism makes him a force to reckoned with, though some may simply call him a fool or idealistic. If he is labeled a fool, then a fool he shall be. Nothing and no one could strike fear into his heart, and for that, he is often times seen as a true warrior. He could stare death in the face and still not flinch, which is a true testament to his bravery and pride.
He is most commonly a ghost, even within his own lands. While it may seem that he is never around, he is always watching and listening. It almost always comes as a surprise when he knows of something that others think he would not ever have a way of knowing about. There are no secrets as long as he is in charge, as he will have some way of finding the answers he seeks. Even if it means physical punishment. He rules with an iron fist and is a cracking whip when leading a harem, believing that all equines must do their part in order for a herd to have longevity and success. Being so hard on his subjects is just one of the many reasons he's labeled as cruel and heartless. He accepts no excuses and refuses to believe that something he wishes for can't be achieved.
Feeding even more into his cruel image is his apparent lack of emotions. He does not show or tell others what he is feeling. Instead, he wears a monotonous facade like a mask. To Jigsaw, love and other feelings of attachment are fleeting, and he'd rather not voice them in the first place, even if he comes to feel these things deeply. The way he sees it, it only gives someone power over you and allows them to have control of you by battering your feelings into a pulp to get their way. So, he protects himself by pretending not to care one way or the other. While it has been the cause of past heartbreaks, he only sees it as justification for his seemingly dry mannerisms towards affections of any sort. This can also be attributed to his lack of trust in others, though it only makes it seem that he care for success and building a large harem. Perhaps the only testament to the fact that he cares for someone is the positions he gives them within his harem. It is the only thing that shows how he feels for someone, though most do not realize this and continually believe that he does not care for them. Even if he can't admit it to himself, Jigsaw has felt love for another before and tends to become smitten more quickly than he'd like.
History: Jigsaw grew up in a small herd led by a caring, optimistic brute. His mother ranked low in the harem, but was always at peace with her position. The herd functioned as a unit and each equine had their own tasks to carry out. Jigsaw's mother was a babysitter of sorts and served as the teacher for the young. His father led the herd and is much the reason that Jigsaw became what he is. Growing up, Jigsaw and his brothers were all trained to be warriors for the herd. They were the ones who were sent out on patrol when they came of age and defended the herd from threats, whether those threats be predators or rivals wishing to take over. Jigsaw, being the oldest by some days or weeks, was the captain of the patrol, which is where his natural leadership came to flourish. He did not let his brothers slide or become lazy, and their father favored him for this.
For 4 years, this was his life. Each year, colts who had reached one year of age were trained to do their job, while building his army. It was as if he were the leader of his own small group within his father's herd, and they all followed their orders as they were told. Otherwise, Jigsaw was quick to strike and put them back into their place quickly. With his father's open door policy, many studs would leave the herd, often times driven away by Jigsaw's iron first. He only saw them as weak and an insignificant member of the herd, which meant he was happy to see them go. He promoted and demoted the young studs as he saw fit and as his leaderships skills reached their peak, his father's herd became the most formidable within the lands. No one dared challenge the group, meaning life was peaceful as ever. Fillies would leave to begin their own lives while colts either joined the patrol ranks or left to lead their own harem. There were no strict rules under his father, but those within Jigsaw's patrol were greeted with a much higher standard than the average herd member.
Jigsaw's fourth spring was the one that would forever change his life. His patrol had become twelve strong, meaning that each key point of his father's territory was guarded by two or more brutes at all times. But when he was alerted there was an intruder about, Jigsaw gathered two lower ranks and the began to make their rounds. That was when he saw her, perhaps the most beautiful mare he'd ever laid eyes on and she was the intruder. She was grey and slender with long, wavy hair and sapphire blue eyes that seemed to stare straight through to his very soul and said her name was Eve. She was quite young, probably only about three years old. From the moment she smiled at him and looked into his orange colored eyes, he knew he had to have her for his own. The one thing he'd believed to be fantasy had become very real for him in an instant; love at first sight. But, knowing his duty to his father and his herd, he escorted the mare back to his father, who welcomed her into his ranks as his own mare. Jigsaw could not stop the stir of emotions that overtook him, though he knew it meant going against his father's rules.
For a year, Jigsaw would often times be found spending time with Eve, though to the others, it simply seemed platonic. But the two had become fond of each other and spent romantic nights together as often as they could, without interfering with Jigsaw's duties. It was during his fifth year and Eve's fourth that she would bear his foal, and that would be his ultimate downfall. His father had not bred to Eve, so when she became noticeably pregnant, Jigsaw was brutally beaten by his father and banished from the herd. Eve was banished alongside him. As they shamefully walked past their now former herd members, Jigsaw could feel the dagger like stares of the brutes he has led so forcefully. The ones that he has constantly barked orders at and beaten when they did not do as they were told or stepped out of line. Now, he was a hypocrite, having done the very thing he'd punished so many before for doing. But Eve did not see him that way, and for a time, that was all that mattered.
They traveled for some months together before Eve gave birth to their son. He looked much like his father, though he would grey out as he became older. The love he felt for Eve was like nothing he ever felt and the three traveled for two years together before Jigsaw welcomed another mare into his ranks. Eve's jealousy took over and she insisted that the other mare be left behind. She wanted to be the only one, but Jigsaw reasoned that a brute must have a herd and that the new mare was welcome for as long as she wished to stay. With tensions rising between him and Eve, Jigsaw began spending time with the new mare until she too bore his foal, this time a striking filly. Jigsaw so loved both of his mares and his young, but Eve would not come to grips with the fact that Jigsaw was doing as any other brute would do. In a jealous fit, Eve attacked the mare, killing her young filly in the process. This enraged Jigsaw, and he punished Eve, nearly beating her to death in his blind rage. The new mare, heartbroken and fearful for her life left Jigsaw's side which did little to ease the pain and sorrow the stallion felt. Despite her brutal beating, Eve remained by Jigsaw's side, seemingly the old mare Jigsaw once loved now that the other mare was gone. But Jigsaw became cold to her, which only prompted her to try harder. Each time they crossed paths with another lone mare, however, Eve was quick to become aggressive and turn hostile, even towards Jigsaw.
Jigsaw would impregnate three other mares who joined him and Eve before the end of his story, but each time, Eve would react violently, always going against the laws Jigsaw had set. Though Jigsaw loved all of his mares dearly and Eve most of all, he knew it was time for her to go. Instead of leaving peacefully, she told all of the mares of the cruelty that had befallen her before by Jigsaw's hand when he'd beaten her after she'd killed one of his young by another. However, she conveniently left the reason for her beating out of her sob story, and they all left him, none giving him a clear reason as to why. Knowing there was nothing he could say or do when they didn't believe the truth he gave him, he let them all go, hoping they would find better homes for themselves, and hoping that Eve would not interfere with their future happiness or their safety. He convinced himself that falling for Eve and she falling for him was the reason why there was no peace within his band and did not understand how his father had made it look so effortless. Perhaps he'd given Eve too many chances and perhaps he had made it seem that in the end, she was the only one. He vowed to never show that sort of emotion towards a mare or anyone ever again and traveled for an entire year on his own. He met many equines along his way, though he did not allow any to join him. When he felt that he was healed and smart enough to build a harem of his own again without so much strife, he decided to formally make claim to a land and begin his life anew, away from the stress and hardships of his past with Eve.
